The Design is in the Details

I was recently asked by photographer Stephen Berkman to help him with some environment and set design for an upcoming shoot he has. His photos are really unique and great, and have a charm to them that takes multiple viewings to get. They're also highly thought out and every detail of the image is meant to serve the story. You might recognize some of his work from Nicole Kidman and Jack White's prop photos from the movie "Cold Mountain" as well as for The Raconteurs album cover. As an "entertainment" designer, it's often that I'm browsing the web for inspiration from other entertainment artists, but it's always important to delve outside our fields and see what other artists are doing. I definitely enjoyed learning about his process so if you got a minute, check out his work and see what inspirations you find. Enjoy!

Speaking of deatils, this "Lord of the Rings" piece is actually a touched up version of something I did a while back. But as I've learned, while the strength of an image lies in its simplification, composition, drawing and value, the DESIGN is in the details. So I went back and detailed it enough to really fit into the production design of the movie.

  1. True, the art of detauils which are but you cant see, but they are in fact like part of the full work is the key for a best work. :-) btw, great work you have.
