DRAWING: Everybody's First Crush

Since leaving Art Center, and even before then, I had neglected my pursuit of this most simplest and truest of crafts. Why? For the same reason as most professionals - my daily work revolved around the need to produce finished color illustrations. Of course drawing is in everything you do, and it certainly was in my work, but there's a difference between actual drawing and maintaining drawing principles in your paintings.

I still drew, but it was always in the service of the painting. Whether it was a rough sketch on the cintiq or a rough doodle that I scanned, my drawings were only taken as far as I needed them because I knew I could fill in the rest with the painting.

However, at the end of December, I promised myself that come Jan 1st, I would make a change:

THE GOAL
DRAW MORE - ONCE A DAY, EVERY DAY

WHAT HAVE I BEEN DRAWING?
Well, I'm still practically a kid at heart in more ways than one, and so the things that I love drawing are the things you find in comic books, mainly OVERLY MUSCULAR GUYS and SEXY, SLEEK GIRLS.

WHY?
I'm always trying to improve, and these sketches were my attempts to execute DYNAMIC POSES with convincing anatomy and structure. I've always been in love with the human figure as an art subject, and to be able to draw it in any pose from any angle has always been a goal of mine since I was that young kid first learning to draw.

These are some of my sketches from the past few weeks. I plan to update at least once a week with more sketches as well as descriptions on how I've managed to improve and what I've seen work for me. The goal is for others to find something of value in my efforts because as a great teacher once told me - "There is no right way to draw."

Thanks for looking!
