I know it's been a few weeks since I've last posted, but I have been working a lot after work on my personal projects. I just don't want to post any of it here because its either too undeveloped or I'm simply waiting to unleash a more finished product.

In the meantime, here's some really quick (30 seconds or less) gesture drawings from a recent trip to the zoo. I went with a lot of story artists, and my goal was to capture the complete essence of the pose and action with the simplest marks, hence the pen. I feel I've gotten better at that. The next step now is better shape design, which I find tough to do while you're trying to scribble the pose in. Haha, I guess that's why drawing ain't easy! I've also been doing a ton of copies and I've been wanting to post them, but they're just studies and don't make for the best viewing material at times. Oh, well, we'll see :)

  1. There is a lot of life in these sketches, nice work

  2. Great sketches! Your works in line and color are really awsome!!
    See you

  3. Thank you, Andrew and SalBa! I appreciate the nice words. Yes, I'm trying to capture more life and simplicity in these than anything else so I'm glad it's working.

  4. these are great mauricio! shape design really is hard... i've been struggling with that myself lately :( i love your strong confident lines though! you dont even have like any under drawing at all! to me that's a sign that you know what you're doing :P haha~ ive been seeing zoo drawings pop up on a bunch of people's blogs lately and i'm wondering if everyone is going to the same sketch group! xD haha

keep up the good work!!! :) i love seeing studies! and blogs are good for chronicling your progres, so don't worryabout posting them ;) im sure everyone enjoys it!

  5. Your sketches are very fun and exciting. I love the different poses as well.

Thanks for letting me know what you think :)
