I've always been interested in depicting classic moments of pop culture literature in more unique and original ways. In this case, I wanted to illustrate Batman's origin but not in the way it's usually depicted with young Bruce Wayne kneeling by his parent's dead bodies in the middle of crime alley. When I came up with the idea of using his mother's pearls, which are ripped off as both his parents are gunned down, I thought that I had actually come up with something both cool and original as I had never seen it shown that way before.
So you can imagine my disappointment months after I started this piece when I came upon another illustration using that same concept (though executed much differently than I've done here). So I thought, "Oh, well. What the heck - might as well just finish it and move on with my life." So here ya go. Hope anyone who sees this and is a Batman fan enjoys it!

It creates the setting and is quite emotional, now triggering the audience to root for Bruce Wayne. Well done. As I write this comment, I am distracted by your handsome and attractive profile photo. Beautifully crafted, as per usual...I'm so sad to see those sad eyes in little Batman as this is happening. Great use of silhouette and lighting too. Fabulous!
